Dyerville to Pepperwood, 8.5 miles
Meet at 7am at the Pepperwood Take-out

We'll paddle from Dyerville (confluence of the South Fork Eel and Main Fork) to Pepperwood, approximately 8.5 miles along the Main Fork of the Eel River, which parallels the majestic Avenue of the Giants.  Meet at 7:00 am, at the Pepperwood take-out, in Humboldt Redwoods State Park to arrange the shuttle.  We're starting early to avoid afternoon wind on this Class l-ll section of the Eel. 

From Pepperwood, we will drive to the put-in, the Dyerville river bar, where the Main Eel River meets the South Fork.  Dress for immersion as the river is cold and cloudy weather is predicted with a chance of afternoon rain.  The difficulty of this section of the Eel is characterized as moving water with few obstacles. Inflatable, sit on top, maneuverable ocean kayaks as well as river kayaks are suitable. Good foot protection and a helmet are recommended.  We'll stop for an early lunch break so bring lunch or a snack and water too.

Directions to the Pepperwood Take-out, 7am meeting
From Eureka, travel south on Rte 101 for 34 miles and take Exit 671 to Pepperwood.  Turn left at end of the offramp.  Cross under Rte 101 and turn left on Rte 254, the Avenue of the Giants. Continue about 1/2 mile then turn right (east) on the river access road, across Rte 254 from the Drury-Chaney Trail in Humboldt Redwoods State Park.  (Google maps says this trip takes about 1 hour.)

We'll launch at the county park boat ramp and paddle up Maple Creek as far as we're able.  Let's add a picnic to the mix! Instead of rushing off after paddling, let's get the most out of our $5 day use fee and light up a grill (weather permitting...it is April, but it's been a weird year).
We may see Elk, otters, & all sorts of birds.
Big Lagoon is very cold this time of year, so please dress in wet/dry suits, or synthetics with splash/rain gear.

And remember that it's TACO TUESDAY at Richard's Goat.  Two full sized tacos for only $5!  Come at 6PM for tacos and socializing.  We'll start the movie when folks are full of tacos.

Sequoias of the Sea: Film Screening & Kelp Restoration Panel

Northern California’s “redwoods” aren’t just on land. Below the surface, our bull kelp forests provide the foundation for life on the North Coast, but they are in crisis. 🌊🌲

Join Surfrider Foundation Humboldt Chapter and our partners for a special screening of the award-winning documentary, “Sequoias of the Sea.”

Over the last decade, we’ve lost nearly 95% of our local kelp forests. This film moves past the headlines to follow the scientists, Indigenous leaders, and fishermen who are working underwater to bring these ecosystems back from the brink. It’s a story of resilience, cultural stewardship, and community action.

After the film, stick around for a conversation about what’s happening in our local waters and how we can help.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is once again returning to Arcata! Adventure's Edge is please to announce that tickets are now on sale for both nights. This is a town favorite event that sells out every year. Don't wait to get your tickets!  Show dates this year are April 28th and 29th. The venue, is the always popular Arcata Theatre Lounge.  Tickets are $22 and available at both Adventure's Edge locations.  Both the Eureka and the Arcata stores are selling tickets, and have a list and short description of each nights films.  Films are different each night so get tics for both.
