About Club Paddles

Many people enjoy a wide range paddling of experiences and we offer a variety of club-sponsored paddles, ranging from easy beginner to more experienced. Places we paddle range from flat-water to surf zone — from lagoons, sloughs, rivers, and ocean. Group paddles are a great way to meet the paddling community and to advance your skills.

Club paddles are hosted by experienced ENC members about twice each month. The hosts lead the paddles, making sure the outing is safe and you have fun. But safety is ultimately YOUR responsibility so it’s important to know your skills and limits. Although it rarely happens, Hosts do have the option to turn away anyone they feel is unprepared for the trip or the conditions.

How to participate

1. RSVP required to attend — First fill out an RSVP form (1 person per form). Click on the RSVP link in our calendar listing or newsletter. Depending on your membership or non-membership status, there will either be a $0, $10, or $15 fee that goes towards insurance. If you are uncertain about filling out the form, contact the paddlehost on the calendar listing by the deadline to register.

2. Sign the ACA waiver — All participants must sign an ACA waiver. The e-waiver link will be listed on the RSVP form. ENC/ACA members can sign an annual waiver which is good for all of our events for the year. ENC Only members and guests (those do not have an ACA membership) will need to sign a non-member waiver for each event they participate in. For those who are uncertain about signing an e-waiver, you can download a printable form (Adult or Minor), sign it, and bring to the event.

3. Note the date and launch time — The launch time listed for club paddles which is the time when you should be ready to be in your boat and launch onto the water. Please give yourself enough time to arrive, unload your boat and gear, and prepare to launch.

4. What you will need:

  • Boat and gear — Participants in any ENC paddles are assumed to have their own boat and gear. If you do not, there are several places where you can rent a kayak, paddle, and supporting gear. Several members may have extra equipment to share as well, but you will need to contact the paddle host early enough so they can check around.
  • Clothing — If you capsize and end up in the water, hypothermia is a major concern. Dress for the water temperature and not outside air temperature. The bay and ocean water temperatures are cold year-round, and lagoon water temperatures during the winter and spring months are as cold or even colder. Contact the Paddle Host if you are uncertain. Some recommendations are the following:
    • Synthetic or wool layers with nylon pants and paddling jacket (shell).
    • Farmer Johns or Janes worn over a synthetic layer on top.
    • Synthetic or wool socks and neoprene booties keep feet warm and comfortable.
    • Dry suit if you have one.
    • NO COTTON.

5. Check the Events Calendar for updates — Check the calendar up to the day of the event. Events are sometimes cancelled or changed at the last moment because of weather or other reasons.

6. Questions — The paddle description includes the paddle hosts’ contact information should you have any questions. You can also reach out to info@explorenorthcoast.net if contact information isn’t available. Please give enough time, at least several days, for someone to address your question.
